Mt Marathon Trail
The massive Mt. Marathon Trail reaches heights of 4,600 feet at its peak in breathtaking Seward, Alaska. The Mt. Marathon Trail is the host to the annual Mt. Marathon race each year on July 4th. You can race on the mountain on the specially designed trail up to 3,022 feet into the skies.
However, you don't have to be a participant in the Fourth of July Mt. Marathon Race to scale the Mt. Marathon Trail. You can access the trail for hiking directly off of Jefferson Street, which is the typical route. Alternatively, there is a route that is accessible from Munroe Street near Scheffler Creek. This route is especially helpful for individuals that find that getting through the forest and trees are too challenging.
Scheffler Creek, part of the Mt. Marathon Trail, is the home to the Scheffler Creek Waterfall, a beautiful completely natural waterfall and creek. Fishing is a great experience at Scheffler Creek, but the best time to catch anything is at six in the morning. Hikers have a chance to see some beautiful wildflowers and fauna that are unique to Alaska. Excitingly, local animals, like the large black bears and families of moose can be seen along the trail.
Whether you come for the race or just for a hike, you won't be disappointed because Mt. Marathon is a unique for both experienced and novice hikers. Visit the Mt. Marathon trail for an unforgettable mountain experience.
