Each February, Savannah kicks of its St. Patrick Day festivities with the Savannah Irish Festival. It has become a can't miss extravaganza of traditional Irish music, Irish food, and fun. It is the largest Irish festival in the south.
The festival is kicked off on a Friday night with a traditional Ceili (pronounced Kay-lee). Ceili is the Irish word for party and this night you get a full dose of traditional Irish music and dancing. You can be taught Irish Folk dancing in a large group and enjoy Irish music from the Savannah Ceili Band. They have opened the Savannah Irish Festival for many years. Other acts you can enjoy are Ennis, Na Fidleiri, Seamus Kennedy, Harry O'Donoghue, Carrol Brown, and Mary Courtney and Morning Star.
There are four stages throughout the weekend. The Main Stage and The Festival Pub Stage highlight traditional Irish music and dancing all weekend long. The ChildrenÕs Stage and Children's Area have free arts and crafts, face painting, and ongoing live entertainment geared at the wee ones. The Festival Cultural Stage offers discussions on Irish history, literature, and music. This family friendly social can be enjoyed for a small donation.
