Part of what is considered to be The Savannah History Experience; the Roundhouse Railroad Museum is a popular destination in a historically-rich southern city.
The Roundhouse Railroad Museum is located at 601 West Harris Street. The museum is open daily from 9am-5pm and is only closed on three days annually: Thanksgiving and New Year's Day, providing a year-round educational experience. The museum is open to train and railroad-lovers of all ages. For a nominal fee visitors can partake in activities such as railroad car tours, a train ride (weather permitting), walk the grounds and view preserved and operational rolling stock cabooses, cars and locomotive engines. There are even special activities just for children which are held in the Baggage Car as well as model railroads and a brick smokestack which towers at over 126 feet in height!
The Roundhouse Railroad Museum, a national historic landmark, is considered to be unique in that it is the largest repairer and restoration for antebellum stock worldwide. Consider this a must on your to-do list for Savannah!
