Visit Alberta Oil Sands in Fort McMurray, Alberta, to learn about the history and how the oil sands function. A guided tour bus is available when visiting the Oil Sands Discovery Centre. Also available are company trained tour guides, who will explain the process of mining to pipeline.

An amazing site to see is the 100-ton scoop shovels that load 380-ton payload trucks with rich, black oil sand and then transport it to seven story high sizers that crush the ore into bite-sized pieces.
Important items to pack during this visit to Alberta Oil Sands are sunglasses, binoculars, a camera, good walking shoes, comfortable clothing for exploring, light jacket and an umbrella. During the month of June, the average temperatures are between 8 and 22 degrees Celsius. Therefore, wear clothing appropriate for these temperatures that are casual and comfortable for spring conditions. Also, note that closed toes shoes are required.
