Florence Symphony Orchestra
135 South Dargan Street Florence, SC 29506
The Florence Symphony Orchestra was created in Florence, South Carolina to provide an outlet for local musicians to get together and perform. This orchestra was originally founded by members of the community in 1949 that loved to play music and wanted to share it with their friends and loved ones.
Originally, when the Florence Symphony Orchestra held try outs, the turn out wasn't exactly what was expected. More string musicians came to the audition than winds, and in a split decision it was decided that the Florence Symphony Orchestra would showcase the talent that Florence had to offer, even if it was a little out of the ordinary. In the beginning, the American Symphony League granted the Florence Symphony Orchestra membership, but didn't believe that a town as small as Florence could sustain an Orchestra. Florence proudly proves the popular opinion wrong by celebrating their 59th season.
The Florence Symphony Orchestra has now grown to 60 members and performs four times a year. This orchestra consists of volunteers from Florence. They play classical music to a dress code free audience for concerts that can range up to 2 hours. The Florence Symphony Orchestra plays concerts to touch the audience, and share their passion with the community.
