Great Dunes Golf Course is one of four golf courses located at Jekyll Island Golf Club near Brunswick, Georgia. Designed in the 1920s by one of the best golf course architects of the era, "Old Man" Walter Travis, this nine hole, par 36 course is still in vintage condition.
Great Dunes Golf Course's small greens and varying degrees of difficulty are consistent with the style of play of that time, before high-tech alloy drivers, golf carts, and fist-pumping champions. The dress code for the course requires non-metal spikes and collared shirts; denim is not allowed. Course rates are relatively low for a whole day of play with a golf cart, and even less to walk and play the nine holes through once.
The clubhouse includes a display of the history of golf on Jekyll Island, a small golf shop and snack bar. Great Dunes Golf Course features views of the ocean, palm trees and coastal dunes. People have been golfing on Jekyll Island since 1898, and with three other 18-hole courses to explore, Jekyll Island is Georgia's largest public golf resort. It is also the home of the annual Georgia-Florida Golf Classic tournament.
