The Marine Corps Recruit Depot or USMC Recruit Depot is a training ground for incoming US Marines. Visitors are encouraged especially for the graduation ceremonies, which take place on the last two days of new recruit training.
As the military facility with the most visitors, the USMC hosts at least 120,000 visitors annually. Many of these visitors choose to stay in the nearby city of Beaufort. There, visitors can find lodging, food, and entertainment. And, as an area famous for its historical attractions, there is definitely plenty to see. Historical attractions include the Beaufort National Cemetery that dates back to the Civil War, the 1st SC Infantry of African Descent, the Macy-Rhett House, the Historic Beaufort Arsenal, and the United States Marine Corps Museum.
Another thing that often attracts visitors to Beaufort is the many parks. They include Waterfront Park, nestled along the edge of the Beaufort River; Pigeon Point Park, a family play area; Live Oaks Par, a park perfect for families that enjoy sports; Hunting Island State park, which is the perfect place for nature loves that enjoy camping and hiking; and Burton Wells Park, another sports and fitness destination.
Anyone visiting for a loved one's graduation might consider making a weekend or even a week long vacation out of this trip. There is most definitely not a loss of things to do while visiting the USMC Recruit Depot area. Even families can get the most out of a trip to this exciting and beautiful area.
