The Chattooga River is THE Wilderness Experience in the Southeast.
The Chattooga River gained some notoriety in 1972 when the movie "Deliverance" was filmed on the river.
Flowing through three states and the Ellicott Rock Wilderness, the Chattooga is recognized as one of the Southeast's premier whitewater rivers.
The Chattooga offers outstanding scenery ranging from thundering falls and twisting rock-choked channels to narrow, cliff-enclosed deep pools. Dense forests and undeveloped shorelines characterize the primitive nature of the river corridor. There are locations in the Ellicott Rock Wilderness area, which the Chattooga is a part of, that have remained relatively unchanged from their earliest known history.
Forming the boundary between South Carolina and Georgia and flanked by a protective corridor since the 1974 congressional designation of the Chattooga as a "Wild and Scenic River". In the East, the Chattooga River is banked by the Sumter National Forest ; in the west, the Chattahoochee National Forest.
Chattooga river whitewater rafting is an easy day trip from Atlanta GA, Greenville SC, Charlotte NC and all points in between.
