Jacob Hamblin Home
Fans of pioneer history, architectural enthusiasts, and vacationers alike would do well to add the Jacob Hamblin Home to their itineraries. The picturesque landscape surrounding the house is only surpassed by the impressively preserved structure which was constructed in 1863.
The home is located in Santa Clara, UT, the colony that Jacob Hamblin established during the Mormon settlement of the state. In fact, some of the bricks in the adobe and sandstone structure come from the walls of the fort that first established Santa Clara.
Hamblin Home, which once served as a school, community center, and shelter to Hamblin’s sizable family is now on the National Register of Historic Places. The home has been converted to a museum showcasing both the everyday lives of early pioneers and Hamblin’s impact on Utah’s history. Guided tours of the house are available and it is within driving distance of St. George, UT and Snow Canyon State Park. Locals advise a visit in late spring or early summer when the property’s peach trees are at peak ripening for a delicious bonus to the trip.
