Indian Valley Mine
The Indian Valley Mine, located off Seward Highway just south of Anchorage, Alaska, is a family owned and operated historical site with plenty of opportunities for family fun!
Open from mid-May through mid-September, the Mine is listed as a National Historic Site, and provides inexpensive family fun and a chance to check out a fascinating piece of history! Visitors will have the opportunity to learn gold panning, visit the historical assay building (one of the oldest structures built on the Turnagain Arm) and museum, browse the gift shop, learn the history of the mine from the owners, Roger and Arlene Cowles, or just relax and drink in the beauty of Turnagain Arm. The Mine is worth taking time to visit, not only for a fun taste of history and the breathtaking scenery, but also for the on-site Turnagain View Bed & Breakfast, located on a 1901 gold mining claim owned by the Cowles family, which promises guests “tours, tales and gold-panning†as well as some good old-fashioned Alaskan hospitality!
Visitors are strongly recommended to take the time to experience this one-of-a-kind place!
